For over 120 years, Suburbs Recreation Club has been at the heart of Bulawayo's sporting community, bringing people together through sport, friendship and tradition.
Suburbs Recreation Club has been a cornerstone of Bulawayo's sporting landscape since 1902, when local residents pooled resources to establish it as a neighborhood tennis club. As the city grew, the club evolved, its historic clay courts and original 1900s pavilion becoming a central hub where generations of families forged lasting friendships through sport. Today, that beautifully preserved pavilion serves as a high-quality family restaurant, maintaining the heart of the club's social tradition while our sporting focus has expanded to spearhead the growth of modern racquet sports in Zimbabwe.
Now recognized as one of the country's premier squash venues, the club proudly anchors local sporting history as a vital development center for Matabeleland Junior Squash. Suburbs has nurtured elite talent—most notably producing current men's national champion Ryan Gwidzima—while hosting prestigious international fellowships like the Jesters Club and fierce inter-city rivalries like the Dig Deep Doubles tournament. Embracing the future, we are actively modernizing our infrastructure with independent Padel-Zim courts, a new plant nursery, and upcoming plans for a state-of-the-art doubles squash court and an elegant smart bar lounge. Over a century later, our commitment to providing an exceptional competitive and social experience remains as strong as ever.
